Dear colleagues and friends,

It is my great honour and pleasure to invite you, on behalf of the Congress Organizing Committee, to participate at the 4th Croatian Congress of Laboratory Diagnostics, with international participation, to be held in Opatija, Croatia, April 19 - 22, 2012.

Congress is multidisciplinary, we are pleased that we succeeded in our attempt to make this Congress a bridge between health workers different specialities (BLS and all other). The Congress will be organized in plenary sessions, symposia, oral presentations and poster sections, which offers us a chance for exchange of scientific research results, new ideas and technologies and their implementation in science or everyday diagnostic/clinical practice. We hope that the selected topics and active participation of renowned national and international experts will be sufficient invitation for all participants.

Our profession plays a vital role in the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients, in monitoring, development of new tests and in surveillance of diseases of Public Health importance. The highlight theme for the 4th Congress: ˝Infectious Diseases - diagnosis, treatment and prevention˝, is therefore highly relevant and important.

It is our wish to use part of the time for pleasant contacts during the Congress and for sightseeing.

Opatija, this elegant tourist destination, often called the pearl of the Adriatic, lies at the centre of the Riviera with the longest tradition of tourism in Croatia. In the past it was a summer and winter destination for the Austro-Hungarian nobility because of its very attractive geographic position, mild Mediterranean climate, well-maintained public gardens, luxury hotels and villas. From then until today, Opatija has been a favourite destination for many tourists from all over the world. The contrasts of sea and mountains, old buildings and modern comforts, green parks and blue ocean, make Opatija and its surroundings a very attractive tourist resort at any time of the year.
